Crypto Staking Reward Tax Calculator
Find out how much of your staking income may be taxable in the UK. Our calculator helps you apply HMRC rules to work out what your taxable income from staking may be, after accounting for fees and the £1,000 Trading Allowance.
⚠️ This calculator is intended for Proof of Stake (PoS) staking rewards only. It does not cover DeFi lending or yield products that are sometimes described as “staking”. DeFi arrangements can have very different tax implications and may require separate professional advice. For more information on how staking is taxed, see our guide to how staking rewards are taxed.
How the Calculator Works
To use this calculator, you’ll need to know:
- The value of the crypto staking rewards you received, in GBP
- Any fees or expenses directly linked to earning those rewards (if applicable)
- How much of your £1,000 Trading Allowance is unused for the tax year (our calculator defaults to £1,000, but reduce it accordingly)
Our calculator will:
- Determine whether it's beneficial to claim expenses or your unused Trading Allowance
- Show your taxable income
- Estimate the income tax due at basic, higher, and additional rates (20%, 40%, and 45%)
For more information on how staking is taxed, see our guide to how staking rewards are taxed.

This calculator shows estimates at three income tax rates:
| Band | Income Range (2025/26) | Tax Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Up to £50,270 | 20% |
| Higher | £50,271 to £125,140 | 40% |
| Additional | Over £125,140 | 45% |
Users will need to consider their other income for the relevant tax year to determine which rate will apply to them. This tool does not determine your tax band; it shows all three so you can pick the one that applies.
FAQs
How does this calculator determine my taxable staking income?
The calculator assesses whether it's more advantageous to apply your unused £1,000 Trading Allowance or to deduct actual expenses. It then calculates your taxable income accordingly and estimates the potential Income Tax at rates of 20%, 40%, and 45%.
Does the calculator determine my exact tax band?
No. The calculator provides tax estimates across all three income tax bands. It's your responsibility to identify which rate applies based on your total income for the tax year.
Is the £1,000 Trading Allowance automatically applied?
The calculator defaults to applying the full £1,000 Trading Allowance. If you've used part or all of this allowance elsewhere, adjust the input accordingly to reflect the remaining amount available.
Can I claim expenses and the Trading Allowance?
No — it's one or the other. Our calculator automatically applies the most beneficial option based on your inputs.
What if I’m staking through a company?
This calculator is for individuals only. Company staking income is subject to Corporation Tax and different accounting rules.
